Shampoo Bars with Oat Straw, Horsetail, Marshmallow Root, White Willow Bark
Frank & Nance make two shampoo bars. One for Brunettes and one for Blondes. We choose certain herbs for specific hair types. The Calendula & Chamomile are ground and added to our shampoo bar for lighter hair types. Typically those herbs are known for their hair lightening properties, as well as scalp healing and helping with dandruff. Similarly, our Rosemary & Lavender bar has ground Tulsi Basil and Rosemary. These herbs target scalp health and promote hair growth by unclogging the hair follicles. They are also known for helping hair keep it's natural darker hue.
Our recipes include herbs that are in both of our shampoo bars. Here is why we have chosen these specific herbs. First of all, Oat Straw. Oat Straw is an amazing herb/plant. It leaves hair feeling soft and looking shiny. It is also great for itchy, sensitive scalp, and calms irritated skin.
Horsetail is another herb that we incorporate into our shampoo bars. It helps to strengthen hair and contains Selenium (mineral) that regulates hair growth. So, it may help to promote hair growth and strand strength and be beneficial for hair loss, dandruff and split ends.
Marshmallow Root. Marshmallow Root is great for hair because it soothes and relieves dry, damaged hair. When Marshmallow Root becomes wet it turns slippery and gel like. It is a natural hydrator which makes it the best moisturizer and de-tangler. Look for our new leave in hair conditioner/de-tangler coming out in November 2019.
White Willow Bark is another herb that we use in all of our shampoo bars because of it's astringent properties. It helps with oily hair as well as dry hair because it is known to balance the sebum that humans naturally produce. White Willow Bark has salicin which converts to salicylic acid. That is what makes this herb extra special. It is a mild pain reliever and a great ingredient for acne and oily skin types.
In conclusion, our shampoo bars have herbs that help with scalp health, hair growth, promote thick, shiny strands, are great for dry, damaged hair, and oily hair types. The essential oils are for scalp health, as well as keeping your color intact.
*As with any product out there, people do have sensitivities to natural ingredients. Please always read the ingredient labels to make sure that you do not have an allergic reaction to any of our products. Reminder, it is normal to have excessive flaking when using our shampoo bar for the first time. It means that it is working. Your scalp needs to slough off the old dead cells to allow new cells to grow. I always tell people to try the bar for a week or two. If you are experiencing excessive redness or a rash, please discontinue using the product. You may be having an allergic reaction to an herb or the different oils used to make the shampoo bar.
